History

10 years ago, a youth came to the VOICES Youth Center in Napa. She wanted to know where Napa’s LGBTQ community was and why Napa didn’t have anything for LGBTQ Youth. She didn’t let the fact that nothing like that had existed before stop her from pushing VOICES to create something new to address this glaring lack of resources. With her leadership and VOICES’ support, the Q*Youth monthly group for LGBTQ youth launched in March of 2010. This group aimed to be Napa’s first, widely known, safe space for LGBTQ youth to come together to make friends, share life experiences, get connected to supportive resources, and have fun while being free to be themselves. Within the first year, more than 50 youth had participated in the group and in connected events and plans for growth began to take shape

As Q*Youth at VOICES quickly became well known as the place for LGBTQ youth to get connected, the team began offering LGBTQ awareness trainings to other youth-serving organizations throughout Napa County and planning for a historic LGBTQ Community forum in the fall of 2011 on National Coming Out Day.

Q*Youth has since evolved into our current, weekly Youth Socials.
