JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
LGBTQ Program & Evaluation Manager
LOCATION: Headquartered in Napa, California. Managing Napa/Solano/Sonoma County sites.
RESPONSIBLE TO: LGBTQ Connection Program Director
HOURS: Full-Time
SALARY: $45,000 - $55,000, depending on experience
SUMMARY: While Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties are technically part of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, they are worlds apart in terms of acceptance, visibility and connectedness for the LGBTQ people that live, work, and go to school here. What started as a Napa support group for LGBTQ youth in early spring 2010 has quickly become multiple thriving hubs building a cross-cultural, multi-generational LGBTQ movement—fueled by the leadership of youth and young adults. LGBTQ Connection is the area’s first (and only) comprehensive initiative increasing awareness & inclusion--and ultimately, health and well-being--for LGBTQ people across the region. Since its founding, the program has achieved numerous milestones and is adding a dynamic team manager to support growth and evaluation as the program adds three new sites.
LGBTQ Connection is seeking a passionate community organizer. Specifically, one who is experienced in nonprofit youth program development and evaluation, that thrives in start-up, and excels at developing people and programs to accomplish goals in the context of a regional, grass-roots, rural/suburban, LGBTQ community organization.
The program’s overall goals are both exciting and daunting—most projects initiated by LGBTQ Connection are being done for the first time in the area’s history. LGBTQ Connection’s Program and Evaluation Manager works directly with the Program Director, and teams of youth leaders and adult volunteers in order to implement and measure the effectiveness of LGBTQ Connection’s ground-breaking activism, outreach, programs, trainings and events. Ultimately, this is to fulfill the program’s mission of creating a community that is healthy, safe and fully inclusive of LGBTQ people, with a visible, diverse, and vibrant LGBTQ community.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Because of the start-up nature of the program, responsibilities are dynamic. Thus, a self-motivated, critical thinking mentality is paramount to making the most of the position. In addition to partnering in the management of the overall development of programs and evaluation, LGBTQ Connection’s Program and Evaluation Manager will be directly responsible for:
Program Development
Supervise and support Program Coordinator(s) to form and develop innovative youth leadership teams in several communities that then facilitate vibrant groups and activities with youth at the centers and in the community; lead trainings and workshops with human services and other nonprofit professionals; and develop community projects centered on goals of LGBTQ awareness and activism with, for, and by youth.
Program Evaluation
Collaborate in managing the rollout and evaluation of a state-funded grant that will grow, measure the effectiveness of, and share the learning from LGBTQ Connection’s youth-leadership fueled programs at three new sites. Employ Participatory Evaluation strategies, involving youth as shared leaders in developing research questions, creating data collection instruments (such as surveys), collecting information and data, interpreting and analyzing findings, presenting findings, making recommendations for change, and advocating for use of findings.
Training and Workshop Coordination
Coordinate and facilitate dynamic workshops with nonprofits, government, educational, social service and health-related agencies, and other professionals in the community to inspire a shared commitment to inclusivity, increased awareness of LGBTQ issues and implementation of LGBTQ best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS: Initiative, creativity and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. A leadership style that is firm and goal oriented, and yet motivates, trains, and engages others in an enthusiastic way is important. Additional qualifications include:
Passion for and personal connection to LGBTQ issues.
Creativity that is energized by launching brand-new initiatives and a “do what it takes” mentality for start-up.
Degree in LGBTQ Studies, humanities, nonprofit leadership—or significant professional experience in related fields.
Demonstrated experience in managing staff.
Demonstrated experience in developing nonprofit (especially youth-serving) programs.
Demonstrated experience in developing/implementing evaluation of nonprofit programs.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and proficiency in using computers, office machines, and software.
Reliable transportation, valid CA driver license & insurance.
Desired, but not required, additional qualifications: English/Spanish bilingual, demonstrated experience with a bridge-building approach to activism, personal or professional history in Napa, Sonoma and/or Solano counties.
