San Francisco Oscar party to benefit Napa's LGBTQ Connection

For the second year in a row, the Academy of Friends Gala in San Francisco on Oscars night will benefit Napa's LGBTQ Connection.

The local group was chosen as one of seven Bay Area beneficiaries for its AIDS/HIV prevention work with youth and young adults, said Ian Stanley, program director of LGBTQ Connection.

The Oscars gala takes place on Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria. Tickets are $250 in advance online or $300 at the door. Buyers should mention LGBTQ Connection when making their purchase.

One hundred percent of purchases by supporters of LGBTQ Connection will come back to Napa, Stanley said. Napa individuals and businesses have been major contributors of items for the gala's silent auction, he said.

Because of proceeds from last year's event, LGBTQ Connection was able to double its HIV prevention work locally, Stanley said.

To buy tickets, go to lgbtqconnection.org.

Napa has traditionally had an Oscars party that benefited the Care Network at Queen of the Valley Medical Center. This year's party has been canceled, with plans to have an Oscars benefit next year.
