26 YEARS OLD
I have a complicated relationship with birthdays. I love them. I love planning celebrations for others. And, I have a hard time asking for anything for my own birthday. This year is different. For my 27th birthday, June 1st, I need your help to raise $2,700 for my and LGBTQ Connection’s work with Latina/Latino youth communities and our other inclusion and advocacy efforts. (Why am I doing this? Learn more by reading below.) If you can, please share this page with friends, donate, recruit friends to donate, or use #LatinxPower. Please support me in making my birthday wish come true!
I’ve worked with LGBTQ Connection for almost 3 years as a Program Coordinator and I decided to do something a little different for my birthday; I am raising $2,700 for LGBTQ Connection to support our work with Latinx communities. Why? Because fun fact: I am Latinx! My parents are Mexican from Zacatecas and I identify as Gender Non-Conforming. Latinx is a gender neutral term for Latina or Latino for people whom do not identify on the gender binary of man or woman. As a person of color and a member of the LGBTQ community, I work hard to create spaces for myself and my young people where all genders, sexualities, and ethnicities have a sense of safety and home to grow.
In kindling new spaces for young people, I practice creating and sharing love for my communities. I need your help to continue this love for our LGBTQ Latinx young people through supporting #LatinxPower. In Sonoma County and Napa County, there are almost zero professionals trained to competently serve both the Spanish speaking Latinx community and the diverse LGBTQ community.
Therefore, for my 27th birthday on June 1st, this is my wish:
Help me raise $2,700 for LGBTQ Connection by June 27, 2018.
The money raised for my birthday wish will help LGBTQ Connection continue our work of responding to our community needs. My personal projects also include having special Latinx events and inclusion in Pride during June 2018, supporting the development of my Latinx youth leaders, and helping more Spanish-speaking providers get trained in LGBTQ topics. I am excited for us to continue to show our communities what #LatinxPower looks like. Will you join me? Any and all support is appreciated.
